Right now, part of the issue is that in this culture that we tend to be isolative, critical, and uninvolved. Hate groups thrive in this environment because it allows them to reach out to struggling kids unimpeded and sway them first. In this process, the general critical nature of our society makes the proto-killer feel bad about themselves. The isolative nature leaves them feeling like they can't go to anyone, and if they do but make mistakes, the critical nature causes people to shut them down harshly. The hate groups see this anx know how to take advantage of this. The hate groups reach out to counter the isolation and offer myths of automatic exceptionalism, with the condition of them accepting the hate belief system, and the proto-killer gets hooked. From there they are fed paranoia and hate until the killing seems logical. And while this is happening, trolls antagonize people who oppose their hate messages so constantly that the anti-hate groups get frustrated and reactive, and often respond with highly critical responses that just push someone on the fence into the hate group's arms.
